Historical Sketch
In April 1997, Reverend Marion Davis and her two sisters, Reverend Hazel Blount and Reverend Nancy Franklin met in Roanoke Rapids, NC for a sisterhood retreat. The three sisters (all very close in age) were actively involved in excellent ministries, but were feeling the need to expand and answer the greater calling of God in their lives and to provide a place of freedom and refuge for God's people; those who had been rejected and abused by life, society, family, and even other ministries. After later talking with their families and a few prospective members, the name Victory In Christ Ministries was chosen, with Reverend Davis as the Pastor, Reverend Blount as Assistant Pastor, and Reverend Franklin as the 2 nd Assistant.
July 25, 1997 VICM became incorporated with the State of North Carolina .
April 1998, we secured a place for worship, 462 South Driver Street , Durham , North Carolina at the Hanes Funeral Chapel. Pastor Franklin O. Hanes, a long-time friend and funeral director opened his doors to us and we will eternally be grateful to him for his labor of love.
May 17, 1998 we held our First Official Service with family, friends, and well-wishers. The message preached by Pastor Davis was “God Won't Lead Where His Grace Won't Provide.”
Since May 17, 1998 , we have had many ups and downs; we were challenged, but not defeated! We've passed the Acid Test, Worked through the Pain because it was Only Temporary; and we are God's victorious people, and the Church of God on the Move.
We remained at the Driver Street location for 6 ½ years and on March 6, 2005 we marched in our new home at 124 East Edgewood Drive, Durham, North Carolina, with Bishop Marion Davis Patterson as Senior Pastor and Elder Mario L. Davis as Co-Pastor. God had brought us the victory once again!
March 26, 2006 , our Pastor, Bishop Marion Patterson was officially confirmed to the Office of Bishop and Presiding Prelate of VICM.
We are a church that is truly on the move for God and we know that we can declare as our basis scripture states,
“But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
I Corinthians 15:57
